Grit & Sportsmanship Award

The Grit & Sportsmanship Award is a special award created in memory of Kent Yamazaki. Kent represented Western Australia at the National Team Championships, The Pizzey Cup and the National Schools Championships where they won the National Championships. Kent was one of the top players in Australia and regularly attended National Camps and ITF events. Kent was an incredibly hard worker who maximised his ability through his dedication to the game, 100% effort and being a true professional . The award embodies Kent’s spirit and the foundation’s three key values of Grit, Passion & Friendship. This award recognises young athletes who portray these three values.

Applecross Senior High School

The Tennis & Academic Award is a prestigious student-athlete award created in memory of Kent Yamazaki. This award recognises outstanding performance for both tennis and academic excellence. Kent excelled on the tennis court and in the classroom at Applecross. Kent was greatly respected by his peers for his great time management and hard work that resulted in straight A’s at Applecross. Kent achieved stellar academic results whilst representing the Applecross tennis team which included a National Title and numerous State Championships. The award is presented to the student-athlete who has excelled in the classroom and on the tennis court.

Player of the Year “Bob Brett Award”

Player of the Year is a prestigious athlete award which recognises outstanding performance. Nominations will be made based on the attitude toward tennis, efforts, tournament results for the past year.

Dear Koharu,

Congratulations on your wonderful year in tennis.

It is a great pleasure for me to hear that you have been announced as the winner of the BOB BRETT AWARD. My brother Bob thought very highly of you and would be thrilled with your continued development since being the recipient of the G.R.I.T and Sportsmanship Award.

Tennis is a wonderful game that challenges athletes in movement, stroke play, tactics and of course determination. Bob was passionate about providing opportunities for young people to pursue their tennis dreams. He would be so happy that you are following yours.
